Meet the 2025 judges for the End-of-Year Student Midwife competition.
Inspiring others around us is what sets people apart as leaders, innovators, and role models. This special reward is an opportunity to recognise a student MIDWIFE who has truly inspired their peers or colleagues, either at their higher education institution or while on a placement. You could have overcome significant obstacles in your personal life or circumstances to achieve success as a student or have contributed to your studies or placement in such a way that has inspired others. In addition, you could have worked with an organisation or undertaken a personal project, or developed an innovation that would benefit health professionals or patients.
The special reward* is made possible by our Founding Director, Elizabeth Pearson, who is passionate about promoting nursing through enhancing diaspora contributions and fostering shared learning. Career progression, diversity, equity, equality and inclusion in nursing are the focal objectives of DUNMS through enhancing learning opportunities for all nurses and midwives.
The Judges will be looking for a student midwife who demonstrates good communication skills, promotes professionalism and care, has integrity, and is passionate about the nursing profession.
The Special reward includes TUTION FEES that will be paid directly to the institute. This cannot be exchanged or transferred to another individual.

Case scenario:- 38-year-old female, out on her early Saturday morning shopping in Nakawa market in Kampala. Complained of pain and dizziness, then within minutes she collapsed onto the ground.
The market is crowded as vendors and wholesalers are busy loading and offloading goods. Her driver is confused while making contact with relatives, who are an hour’s drive away. Bystanders support and lift her back to her vehicle, which is parked a few meters away. A decision is then reached to transfer her to the nearest hospital. It is now forty minutes after she has collapsed. On arrival, the prognosis is poor. The lady does not survive.
This was a good friend to our Director. However this story is not unique. Many people in our community lack the basic life-saving skills to save lives.
Following the untimely death of a close friend, we have embarked on a mission to install 204 easy-to-use defibrillators across 20 towns and cities in Uganda. We need your help to save lives.
For a single donation of £200, four first aiders will be trained with Basic Life Support skills with a recognised, accredited trainer. They receive an EU-certified licence valid for 2 years. Saving lives, one at a time.
Donations will cover:-
- Equipment (204 defibrillators)
- Installation
- Training for local community first aiders
- Maintenance.
Every Little Helps.
